The Voters: Who Is Leaning Republican?

This fall, we’re doing a podcast miniseries to go along with our articles on America’s voters. This is the first of the podcasts, which are publishing in the FiveThirtyEight Elections feed.

For the past several months, I’ve been traveling around the country talking to voters about the issues that concern them and how they plan to vote. So has Asma Khalid, a politics reporter for NPR. We’ve teamed up for three conversations about those experiences. In this, the first episode, we talk about some demographic groups that strongly support Republicans. In the next installment, we’ll tackle Democratic-leaning groups. And we’ll wrap it all up with a discussion of undecided voters.

Among the groups of Republican voters are white people without a college degree, evangelical Christians and U.S. service members and veterans.
